چکیده

Seven patients suffering from hyperthyroidism have been carefully studied. An analysis of their experimental data provides definite evidence in favour of an associated hyperparathyroidism being the direct cause of the excessive mobilization and excretion of calcium and phosphorus. Two patients suffering from hyperthyroidism with an associated hypoparathyroidism were studied. Both patients were in calcium and phosphorus equilibrium. Though hyperthyroidism is frequently accompanied by a negative calcium and phosphorus balance, it is not invariably so. It is possible for calcium and phosphorus equilibrium or a positive calcium and phosphorus balance to be present. Hyperthyroidism per se his no specific effect on calcium and phosphorus metabolism.

Parathyroid Hormone-Related Peptide and Vitamin D in Phosphocalcic Metabolism for Dromedary Camel

In mammals, phosphocalcic and bone metabolisms are mainly regulated by parathyroid hormone, parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) and 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D or calcitriol. In camels, circulating levels of calcitriol are 10 times higher than those determined in other ruminants and further increase during early lactation. Calcitriol and parathyroid-related peptide stimulate intestinal abs...

STUDIES OF CALCIUM AND PHOSPHORUS METABOLISM: VI. In Hypoparathyroidism and Chronic Steatorrhea with Tetany with Special Consideration of the Therapeutic Effect of Thyroid.

Following the observation by Aub, Bauer, Heath, and Ropes (1), that the thyroid hormone exerts a marked effect upon the excretion of calcium, it became of interest to determine the therapeutic effect of this internal secretion upon the calcium metabolism in tetany. In hyperthyroidism, although the blood calcium and phosphorus levels are essentially normal, the calcium and phosphorus excretions ...

The Lack of Relationship between the Calcium, Protein, and Inorganic Phosphorus of the Serum of Non-nephritic Children

It has been shown repeatedly (14) that in cardiac and renal disease, both in adults and children, there is a direct relationship between the levels of serum protein and serum calcium, and also, within limits, an inverse relationship between the serum inorganic phosphorus and the serum calcium (l-5). Peters and Eiserson (4) attempted a mathematical evaluation of the relative effects of protein a...

Recent advances in calcium and phosphorus metabolism.

This review considers the most recent developments concerning the metabolism and homeostasis of calcium and phosphorus. The kinetics of the distribution of calcium, theories of calculus formation, hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia are discussed, as well as the role of parathyroid hormone, thyrocalcitonin and 1,25 dihydroxy Vitamin D(3) in maintaining calcium levels and skeletal integrity. In addit...
